Amy Alward’s Must-read YA Novels

Amy AlwardThere are so many great YA novels out there that it’s hard to narrow down this list! But I hope these six books offer a little for everyone – whether you love John Green-style romantic, heart-wrenching love stories or action-packed, Hunger Games-esque adventures…

  • All the Bright Places by Jennifer Niven

It’s an emotional rollercoaster: I’m warning you now! This book, about two suicidal teens that meet on the edge of a bell-tower, is definitely one for fans of John Green to pick up. Tissues at the ready!

  • Simon vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli

Fancy a funny, heart-warming, massive hug of a novel? Simon vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda is it. The theme song to this book would be Pharrell’s ‘Happy’. I’m dancing just thinking about it.

  • Remix by Non Pratt

It’s festival season, and this account of two best friends at a music festival will rock your world. Smart and funny is what I’ve come to expect from Non Pratt (her first book, Trouble, about a pregnant teenager, was nominated for awards all over the shop), but this is another level of awesome!

  • Way Down Dark by James Smythe

This one is for those starved of Hunger Games action! The main character, Chan, blows even Katniss out of the water in terms of bad-assery and this will have you turning the pages deep into the night.

  • A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas

A Beauty and the Beast retelling by one of the best storytellers in YA? Yes please! This is sexy, stylish and engrossing and if you don’t drool over Tamlin then you officially have a heart made of stone.

  • Extraordinary Means by Robyn Schneider

Robyn Schneider is an author who continues to get better and better – and this latest, about two teens with TB, is pretty much perfect. Moving and heart-breaking yet also witty and irreverent, I thoroughly recommend it.
